Overview

We're looking for a freelance Sr UX Researcher who has the ability to travel up to 1 week a month for onsite customer visits. 

  • Start date: ASAP
  • Duration: 6 months to start 
  • Location: Remote
  • Hours: 40 per week 

As a Senior UX Researcher you'll be responsible for understanding the unique needs of our client's industry and users to identify, validate, and create new digital products. You will work on prioritized UX research efforts to help the your team understand typical usage and the more complex or rapidly evolving relationships between end-user journeys and audience verticals. Aims to understand the unique needs of our client's industry and users to identify, validate, and create new digital products. Your assigned work will span from sourcing to presenting findings. With a growth mindset, you will collaborate through research cycles and help provide insights, information, and recommendations for our client's product team. You will frequently travel to customer sites (in partnership with other team members) and conduct field research to help your team understand typical usage and the more complex or rapidly evolving relationships between end-user journeys and audience verticals.

To accomplish this, you will:

  • Identify the optimal inquiry method and perform all aspects of the UX research lifecycle (study design, recruiting, moderation, analysis, reporting, and communication) as needed.
  • Adapt research plans on the fly and are resourceful in overcoming research execution challenges.
  • Assist in sourcing cycles, conducting stakeholder inquiries to understand what requirements for qualified candidates, crafting screeners or other qualifying materials, and aiding in typical sourcing duties as necessary (scheduling, confirming, etc.)
  • Plan onsite visits and schedule your own travel, as part of a larger team research roadmap
  • Conduct various onsite customer inquiries in partnership with your team
  • Synthesis observations and findings as needed with both transparency and collaboration
  • Perform quick but thorough data analysis to uncover insightful and actionable results that drive outcomes and tactics
  • Communicate research insights and recommendations across your product team as needed. Know the best format to convey findings for unique audiences (Ex: Research summaries/toplines, personas, journey maps etc.) 
  • At times, your work will extend into sprint release cycle experiments that provide teams with meaningful, timely, and actionable customer insights. When applicable, facilitate design workshops and concepting sessions led by customer research insights.
  • Empower your product team by involving them in various phases of research lifecycles and bringing them closer to the customer.
  • Communicate research insights and recommendations across your product team as needed. Know the best format to convey findings for unique audiences (Ex: Research summaries/toplines, personas, journey maps etc.)

Qualifications

  • Six years of experience (Prefer BS or BFA in HCI, Cognitive Science, or related field)
  • Demonstrated ability for sourcing research candidates
  • Proven experience in leading both generative and evaluative efforts. Hands-on experience with in-person and remote moderated/unmoderated user research methods that apply to digital or software landscapes. Strong understanding of which method of research to use in various situations.
  • Demonstrated experience with onsite contextual inquiries and observational studies. (Willing and able to perform research in person on a construction job site)
  • This role includes traveling up to 1 week a month for onsite customer visits (this may consist of construction sites), the ability to meet travel expectations and experience making your travel arrangements.
  • OSHA 10 certified or committed to completing company-provided OSHA 10 certification training.
  • Experience with supporting and growing UX design research repositories.
  • Some experience running design workshops and or facilitating design concepting sessions.
  • Hold passion for understanding the user and advocate on their behalf by continually communicating the user's perspective throughout the design process.
  • Possess strong written and verbal communication skills and skilled users in Microsoft applications.
  • Must include a link to an up-to-date, online portfolio or sharable examples of work to be considered.
