This is a full time W2 contract assignment for a Strategic Communications Specialist to support high visibility IC client.  All work is onsite in McLean, VA.  Current TS/SCI w/ Full Scope Poly Required.  This is a fast paced front office with 10 person staff.  

The candidate will provide executive support to on-site senior staff as well as secondary support to leadership in other areas on an as-needed basis.   This client integrates support disciplines for the operational mission and address office functions such as technology, policy, process, people, and data. The diverse portfolio of business areas include corporate resources & infrastructure; data insights; visualization and exploration; office data program; field offices; liaison staff teams, special projects teams; talent management and development group; global integration staffing group; and support staffing teams local and globally.


  • Candidate must have a professional writing style and the ability to adapt to the Organization's tone and style guides. The primary requirement of this position is to transform concepts, bullet points and/or topics into finished written and visual products using a professional, neutral style that reflects the voice of leadership and organizational values.
  • Must be able to develop strong relationships with co-workers, anticipate needs of the organization, work independently and be able to prioritize multiple requirements that often require quick turnarounds.
  • The candidate will assist with, or take the lead on, a number of existing communications avenues currently in use. The candidate will need to effectively and professionally collaborate with Sponsor Office SMEs in the execution of these duties.  
  • Candidate should be able to own and manage specific communication projects and ensure the success of the consistent execution to increase the effectiveness of workforce engagement and strategic messaging to support the office. 
  • Candidate will assist with the development and delivery of Sponsor office corporate events. Candidate will assist in ensuring that these events provide consistent and clear communication of the stated goals of management.
  • Works with various teams to set up virtual meeting support (VOC) and virtual recordings (Grid) and is responsible for the scheduled meetings, dry-runs, and execution on the VOC/Grid.  
  • May be required to draft speeches and talking points with little direction based on a given topic and incorporate strategic messaging.
  • As a highly visible representative of the front office, the candidate must demonstrate excellent customer service skills, exercise sound judgment, discretion, strong organization skills and effectively communicate at all levels.
  • General coverage for this position is 0830 - 1700 M-F, though occasional hours may be required outside this window to support the mission.


  • Degree in related area preferred.
  • Should have familiarity with updating and maintaining content within a Content Management System (Joomla desired).
  • Must have excellent writing skills and be able to draft quality content for management review. Content drafted should consistently be of a high quality and require minimal to no editing.
  • Must be able to create, draft, and disseminate messaging through web content, newsletter, talking points, speeches, scripts, and workforce announcements.
  • Attention to detail is a must with an ability to self-proof and deliver under pressure.
  • Must be willing to edit (crop) photos and graphics ad hoc to deliver on deadline driven communication such as the newsletter, workforce announcement, and presentation slide decks.
  • Experience with video editing, podcast creation, and managing a blog is plus.
  • Any skills pertaining to graphic design, visually organizing information effectively and aesthetically would be highly desired.
  • Must have excellent organizational and planning skills to assist with the development and delivery of Sponsor office corporate events.
  • Must be outgoing, inquisitive and open-minded in order to develop an understanding of their target audience.
  • Contribute as a full member of the Communications team by helping to identify appropriate communication platforms, methods, and tailoring those to their audience.
  • Should be up-to-date with current communication methodologies and be able to apply those methodologies.
  • Must be able to apply critical thinking skills in order to assess the effectiveness of current communications and in the development of new strategies.
  • Must be able to collect and use metrics in order to make informed decisions and providing meaningful and useful recommendations.
  • Must be adaptable and feel comfortable working with some ambiguity and help formulate strategic communications to best serve the office.
  • Must have familiarity with updating and maintaining content within a Content Management System (Joomla desired). This includes creating, editing and posting articles; maintaining general access/visibility of content; and ensuring content is discoverable via correct tagging and categorization of posts. 
  • Intermediate knowledge of creating digital content such as posters and graphics using Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Creative Cloud products. This includes using Photoshop to resize, crop, or otherwise lightly manipulate stock photo and images and integrating content into existing templates using Microsoft PowerPoint or Word for final delivery.
  • Must have general knowledge of Communications to interpret and report on the effectiveness of communications. This includes analyzing website traffic and feedback surveys regarding the office's various communication products.
