Our client, a Northwest farmer-owned and led cooperative founded in 1918, is looking for a temporary Marketing Manager to work as a “virtual general manager” for their assigned categories and brands. Marketing Managers provide leadership for the business, championing growth and profitability initiatives to improve results. Experience in Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG) required.
Serving as the pivot point and cross functional leader, the Marketing Manager is expected to manage and drive work across the functional matrix both within the marketing & innovation team and across sales, supply chain and other departments to achieve objectives and business improvement. The Marketing Manager is the voice of the consumer and the customer within the our client's organization.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned):
Grow volume, revenue and profitability of assigned category(s) and brand(s)
Strengthen long term competitiveness of assigned category(s) and brand(s)
Lead development and execution of strategic and tactical planning for assigned category(s) and brand(s)
Annual Operating Plan
Tactical marketing plans
Major initiative development
Innovation and other new product development
Collaborate with sales team to achieve retailer based objectives, pricing objectives and trade level setting and strategy
Lead ongoing business and project management practices on a regular interval and standardized process or as assigned
Conduct ongoing business analysis process rigorously and comprehensively as assigned or on self-directed intervals
Manage and execute business building initiatives and tactics
Support consumer products leadership and executive team in annual and long-term planning
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Solid understanding of CPG/FMCG business principles, strategy and best practices
Sound business acumen and tactical judgement
Inventive problem-solving ability
Developing leadership traits and excellent communication skills
Robust personal management skill marked by ability to practice radical candor, lead by example and multi-task effectively
Effective and creative cross functional collaborator and integrator
Excellent understanding of, and ability to readily apply, standard marketing and strategic concepts such as 4P’s, 5C’s, SWOT, etc.
Strong strategic and tactical planning ability including development and application of positioning, portfolio planning, competitive analysis, customer joint business planning and other frameworks
Strong understanding of commodity influenced and linked businesses and concepts around mix, fallout and tradeoffs as well as familiarity with agribusiness conditions, trends and concepts
Strong understanding of the US food marketplace including in depth knowledge of either retailer or foodservice channels
Good understanding of financial and accounting statements, concepts and principles for CPG/FMCG businesses
Good understanding of consumer insights and primary research concepts and tactics such as home use testing, focus groups, surveys, attitudinal, ethonographic and concept testing.
Good analysis and judgement of creative work to ensure quality, alignment and effectiveness
Good understanding of consumer communications best practices, options, mix analysis and current environment trends
