Director / VP, Marketing Communications Consultant (CPG)

  • Full-time
  • Onsite in Westlake Village, Los Angeles, CA
  • 6 month assignment, with potential to extend 

JOB PURPOSE AND MISSION:

This Director role is designed to support the company’s transformation into a purpose-led, consumer-driven organization.  They're looking for a boundary pushing, experienced marketing communications leader.

This role will drive the creation and implementation of key brand building frameworks across marketing platforms, activate consumer-facing programs to drive new business growth opportunities, and help strengthen the relationships and interactivity of brand-based marketing teams across their company worldwide. This role will also play a key role in helping to build their digital technology driving stronger collaboration, leveraging synergies, and evolving marketing platforms.  It will also focus on improving engagement with consumers (rooted in deep insights) to excite them to purchase and repurchase their products.

This role will also work closely with global category innovation leaders, aligning on new product marketing strategy and delivering communications toolkits at launch.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF POSITION:

  • Leads North American brand communications efforts, working with the business development market leads to create purpose-led marketing strategy and deliver outstanding creative execution across platforms
  • Creative planning and execution includes creating “acts” and “events” aimed at demonstrating our purpose in action, and the generation of earned media as a result
  • Works with Global Innovation teams to determine marketing strategy and launch toolkits for new products
  • Leads the development and execution of digital marketing strategies including search, social media, blogs, paid media and emerging opportunities
  • Measures and optimizes all communications programs to drive efficiency and revenue growth
  • Serves as brand steward ensuring all consumer communications are consistent with brand purpose and corporate priorities and guardrails
  • Manages relationships with all consumer communication stakeholders (senior leadership, brand management, innovation, insights, sales), as well as day-to-day relationships with agencies to oversee execution of tactical plans
  • Supports new product launches ensuring consistency with brand strategy and effective trade and consumer connection
  • Works with consumer insights to develop a deep understanding of our target consumer and has the ability to draw insightful conclusions which translate into outstanding, effective programs
  • Provides thought leadership, best practices and innovative guidance in all areas of digital including analytics, site tagging, events, CRM, social and digital media
  • Leads a cross-functional, matrixed team, ensuring creativity, collaboration, structure and process
  • Other duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

  • 8+ years leading integrated marketing communications for a branded consumer packaged goods company
  • Experience in a high-growth and fast-paced environment a plus
  • Experience connecting business strategy and communication strategy; experience in purpose-driven marketing strongly desired
  • Proven ability to balance multiple projects, priorities and deadlines
  • Drive, analytical nature, with entrepreneurial spirit that excels in lean organizations
  • Creative, assertive and solution-oriented when faced with obstacles
  • Proven track record of designing and managing comprehensive marketing programs that mapped to core objectives
  • Proven experience with direct to consumer digital marketing
  • Action-oriented and successful in ideating and executing strategic and tactical plans that deliver results
  • Builds strong relationships with peers and cross-functional partners; is clear and courageous and can manage difficult conversations through direct and constructive dialogue
  • Superior communication (oral and written, including editing) and interpersonal skills
  • Superior project management skills juggling many different initiatives and competing priorities
  • Nimble, proactive go-getter energized by the opportunity to be a part of a results-driven, entrepreneurial culture

  • Experience collaborating with external creative and media agencies

KEY COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:

  • Proficient at necessary office tools:  Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Virtual Collaboration tools
  • Exceptionally organized, strong attention to detail
  • Able to influence and persuade, ability to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization with strong story-telling and presentation skills

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Analytics or other applicable emphasis. MBA preferred.
