Job Description

A financial client in Jersey City is looking for a mid level Copywriter for a 3 month freelance role

- Someone who can take a project and run with it. Quick learner. Able to adapt to brand

- This client's brand is easy, personal and enlightening

- Writing style: conversational tone and matter. Breezy and lighthearted

- This candidate does not need to have financial experience, but is a plus if they do

​- This client uses Adobe Pro to commuciate with Designers so it would be great if they have this experience. Looking for someone who is comfortable outside of a typical word doc 

​- Looking for someone who has experience working within a project management system - they use Tempo right now

- This candidate needs to be able to prioritize their own work and be independent

- Looking for someone who is able to spear head their own work, interpret a brief, ask questions and act against it

- Marketing background is super helpful

- Must have writing samples 

- Digital: Emails, landing pages

- Print: direct mail and ads

- Looking for someone who can write independently, but also recognizes that they are part of a team. Communication is key!

- Looking for someone who has talent, is technical savvy and is a cultural fit

- Looking for someone who can write conversationally, but doesn’t push it too much. The work still needs to pass through compliance

- A lot of the work is rebranding work happening right now. Need to take existing content and make it work for new brand

- Agency background is great, but not necessary

- This client is not looking for financial writers, they want marketing writers

- Writing for web - some social media


Job summary
A creative messenger, the Copywriter contributes to the development of strategic marketing communications that promote the brand through writing fresh, insightful copy that effectively engages our audiences and drives results. 

Knowledge, skills, and abilities: 
• Excellent writing and communication skills 
• Evident understanding of grammar and language 
• Knowledge of traditional and emerging advertising/marketing mediums 
• Quick learner 
• Solid organizational skills 
• Strong interpersonal skills 
• Financial marketing writing experience a plus but not required 

Education and experience: 
• 4-year college degree or equivalent experience 
• Communications, Advertising, English major preferred 
• 3+ years total work experience (2-3 related) 

Essential job functions: 
- Write copy for a multitude of projects across all lines of business 
• Promote products and services using clear, concise copy that communicates features and benefits in a compelling manner 
• Adapt copy style to be appropriate for our different targets and lines of business 
• Review copy in layout to ensure accuracy 
• Interpret a brief — cohesively communicate main message and support points 
• Respond to manager and client feedback; edit materials as needed 
• Perform proofreading tasks on assigned copy projects 
• Be able to work independently, as well as collaborate with designers 
• Assist senior copywriters and managers on larger, more complex projects 

Communicate the brand voice and tone 
• Be able to express financial concepts in a conversational style that's in sync with our brand voice 
• Write clear, concise, grammatically correct, copy 
• Establish familiarity with the Editorial Style Guide 
• Utilize knowledge of our brand (as well as marketing, advertising and industry trends) to better differentiate the firm through writing 

Manage assigned workload, taking projects from kickoff to completion in a professional manner 
• Work in a timely manner to meet key deadlines throughout the project lifecycle 
• Prioritize day-to-day workload, work with manager to prioritize larger scope 
• Collaborate with internal and external partners; raise scheduling issues early enough to address appropriately 
• Utilize the company workflow system for tracking projects
