Job Description:

Our client's Editorial Director is key position aimed at coordinating content creation in a growing organization to ensure messaging and tone of voice are accurate, consistent, and effective for the intended audiences around the globe. He/she must have deep knowledge of the financial industry and investment products and be able to translate complex financial concepts into clear and compelling communications. The role involves maintaining editorial oversight of material produced across the firm, from ideation to publication. Responsibilities include writing and directing an editorial team in a variety of formats, such as web postings, editorial columns, brochures, topical papers, and video scripts for a diverse client base of investment professionals and their clients.


The Editorial Director works closely with subject matter experts and other stakeholders in the content development process to ensure output and strategy are firmly aligned with the requirements of the business and the brand. The ideal candidate has an organizational, process-driven mindset and experience analyzing, developing, and successfully implementing various models for creating content across a fast-moving organization with a dispersed group of subject -matter experts. He/she thrives in a smart, academic culture where ideas are actively debated, and egos are left at the door.


Key Responsibilities:
1. Work collaboratively with Creative, Corporate Communications, Client Communications, business leaders, and subject matter experts to develop content that conveys our client's vision and voice and demonstrates our positioning relative to competitors
2. Lead a team of writers and editors to meet both marketing and business objectives, while creating, maintaining, and evangelizing editorial standards and writing best practices
3. Help shape and reinforce a unique editorial voice that conveys our clients beliefs, in language that is intelligent yet accessible
4. Develop and maintain an editorial style guide tailored to sales channels and audience types
5. Own the editorial calendar and stay abreast of content needs and efforts across the firm
6. Develop standards, processes, and best practices for content creation globally
7. Help ensure visibility of content being worked on to maximize and repurpose its use globally
8. Partner with subject matter experts to extract and bring our story to life across mediums
9. Propose new content ideas to stay relevant and responsive to news, client feedback, and business needs
10. Work collaboratively with Design so that copy and design work together to communicate subject matter in a clear and engaging way
11. Articulate and embody craftsmanship, while setting the bar for quality throughout the organization
12. Manage and proactively drive projects from concept to completion, ensuring all deliverables are met on time
13. Be an advocate for strong writing, leading teams, and building relationships across the firm
14. Set short-term and long-term vision and goals for yourself and your team in the context of the department and firm goals
15. Manage and motivate a diverse team and foster an environment of teamwork to deliver great communications that yield business results
16. Promote and develop staff by setting employee goals, monitoring staff performance, and conducting performance reviews


Competencies Required:
1. Experience developing, implementing, and managing the delivery of investment communications for a broad range of client types
2. Superb writing skills, including mastery of mechanics, grammar, and usage
3. Deep knowledge of the financial industry, especially investing and mutual fund industry
4. Ability to translate complex financial concepts into clear prose
5. Understanding of how to write compliant investment content
6. Proven experience leading and managing a team
7. Superior communication and influencing skills
8. Exceptional, professional client-service skills
9. Collaborative, consensus-building approach working within and across teams
10. Excellent planning, time management, and follow-through skills
11. Ability to multitask and prioritize high-volume workload of the team based on workflow dependencies, competing business initiatives, and time constraints
12. Must have an online portfolio of published content


Educational Background:
Bachelor’s degree in journalism, marketing, communications, or a related field. MBA or CFA® a plus.


Relevant Years of Experience:
Minimum of 10 years of writing and management experience in a marketing or newsroom environment with a focus on leading editorial teams in the financial industry
