Job Description

Educational organization seeks full-time, onsite Instructional Designer to assist in creating innovative and engaging online courses by employing current instructional design methodologies. The Instructional Designer will develop guidelines for consulting with stake holders and SMEs on online course curriculum, and works in collaboration with team members to oversee project management processes and resources, project documents and other related materials. 

Essential Functions of the Instructional Designer:
• Make recommendations on enhancements and/or revisions of course materials, delivery methods, and instructional practices. 
• Conduct needs assessment and initial analysis as part of their collaboration with staff and Subject Matter Experts (SMEs). 
• Author original content and modify existing materials in coordination with SMEs. 
• Create design documents (course outlines, storyboards, design mock ups, etc.) to guide the course development process. 
• Consult in designing effective assessments and evaluation methods. 
• Storyboard engaging and interactive multimedia ideas. 
• Design and provide recommendations for custom multimedia activities and other engaging course elements. 
• Provide supportive documentation for evaluation decisions. 
• Conduct training and coaching on best practices for online course design. 
• Collaborate with Project Management and Course Design team on project timelines and documentation. 
• Serve as an eLearning consultant to Project Managers in discovery meetings that pertain to course design and development. 
• Provide consulting and input on new innovative products that will facilitate the growth of educational initiatives. 
• Evaluate course materials to ensure that online course curriculum is consistent with requirements as specified by SMEs. 
• Plan, conceptualize, and organize multimedia and design projects. 
• Making design decisions and creating original content, when necessary. 
• Assist in incorporating digital media elements in the eLearning platform. 

Requirements: 
Education & Experience 
• Master’s degree in instructional design or educational technology is required. 
• 3+ years of experience developing courses in a corporate, educational, or freelance environment (i.e. education and training, developing original e-learning content, or the employment of instructional design systems methodologies in the development of online curricula) is required, or commensurate experience in fields related to education, instruction, leadership, curriculum development, research and assessment, training, customer service, project management and online pedagogy. 
• At least two (2) years of higher education experience in instruction, leadership, curriculum development, research and assessment, and online pedagogy is strongly preferred. 
• One (1) to four (4) years of experience with at least one (1) of the following: 
o Online course creation within hosting platforms (i.e. eCollege, Blackboard, Angel, Moodle). 
o Online learning or training and development. 
• Certification in project management, or proof of at least six (6) months project management training, is a plus. 
• Ability to conduct research through a variety of methods. 
• Experience in academic planning, assessment, accreditation, and certification are preferred. 
• Knowledge and experience in working in adult education in the academic and training environment. 

Technical / Functional Skills 
• Intermediate-to-advanced knowledge of Adobe Captivate, Adobe Presenter, and Articulate Storyline or like screen/audio capturing eLearning software is preferred. 
• Ability to provide technical guidance and leadership to professional personnel in development of eLearning materials. 
• Employ instructional design and usability best practices into the development of online content. 
• Demonstrated training in content development, curriculum development, training development (i.e. certification or degree in related field). 
• Strong knowledge of Internet terms, technologies, and protocols. 

Competencies 
• Ability to provide technical guidance and leadership to professional personnel in development of eLearning materials. 
• Strong interpersonal and counseling skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of personnel. 
• Must have strong organizational skills with great attention to detail and follow-through, as well as the ability to organize a multitude of tasks under time constraints. 
• Excellent oral and written communication abilities including interpersonal relations are essential.
