Job Description

Our client, a leading global advisory, broking and solutions company is seeking an experienced Product Manager to help them build the next generation of health insurance marketplace products. To give you an overview, this client designs and delivers solutions that manage risk, optimize benefits, cultivate talent, and expand the power of capital to protect and strengthen institutions and individuals. Their unique perspective allows them to see the critical intersections between talent, assets and ideas — the dynamic formula that drives business performance.

On this team, Product Managers ensure that they deliver the promise of their brand and mission to their customers. The product manager serves as a champion of the customer: constantly seeking to understand the customer and refining the product to meet them. On a day-to-day basis, the product manager works with a team of designers, software developers, and quality assurance personnel to continually improve their products. To succeed, the product manager will seek out direct customer feedback, and will supplement this with feedback with input from internal experts and stakeholders. The product manager will continually specify and validate product enhancements with the team and help make decisions in the interests of the customer and the company.

Strategically, the product manager will use his or her day-to-day expertise to craft and maintain a vision for his or her products. This vision will guide the organization’s planning and investing activities over the long term, and will ensure that the product continues to deliver value in the face of major changes. To succeed here, the product manager must maintain expert knowledge of the product, its competitors, the market and the overall domain in which the product lives. Candidates will need to draw from their technical knowledge, research abilities and problem-solving skills. Ultimately, the successful candidate will play a key role in creating software that helps our customers make critically important health care decisions with confidence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Become an expert in one or more Individual Marketplace products (a portfolio of products); aim to be the undisputed expert at the company for products in the portfolio.
  • Stay in regular contact with customers/users to maintain an intimate understanding of their frustrations, needs, and problems.
  • Improve personal understanding of the domain in which our products operate through research into topics like market, competitive, regulatory, and economic factors; evangelize this information to the product development team(s) and stakeholders.
  • Share that understanding with members of product development team(s).
  • Develop and champion a vision for certain products; ensure that the backlog of work items like new features, maintenance items, bugs and others reflect that vision.
  • Identify and foster new ideas to drive value to our customers/users.
  • Measure product KPIs and other sources of data to continuously monitor product health.
  • Conduct experiments, run surveys, do analysis, and other things necessary to understand relative priorities.
  • Develop tools to make priority decisions effectively; help product development team(s) make priority decisions and plan iterations.
  • Document assets/requirements/evidence necessary for product development team(s) to be effective in delivering improvements to the products in the portfolio.
  • Create acceptance criteria and other assets to guide testing and validation; help product development team(s) make critical release decisions.
  • Coordinate with stakeholders to review, understand, and appreciate the work of the product development team(s) including iteration demos and presentations.

The ideal candidate has the following qualifications:

  • 5+ years of product management experience with consumer web applications, mobile apps, enterprise software solutions or CRM software or equivalent industry experience; health care or insurance related experience is preferred but not necessary.
  • Empathy for our customers, particularly older people, people with disabilities, and people suffering from illness or other adverse health conditions.
  • Proficiency with agile product development tools such as product canvases or charters, development roadmaps, story maps, impact maps, user models, and backlogs.
  • Experience with user research and data analysis techniques.
  • Hands on software development experience of some kind is preferred but not necessary.
  • Excellent attention to detail.  Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent presentation skills; an ability to concisely communicate key issues/results in a manner appropriate to a wide range of audiences, including executives and clients.
  • Ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams with project management, stakeholders, design, engineering, and QA staff.
  • Ability to collaborate, negotiate, and build productive relationships; ability to create alignment with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Experience in establishing, managing and maintaining ecommerce technology.
  • Experience with Jira, Sketch, Visio, MS Project, Adobe Creative Suite applications or similar.
  • Experience with health care public policy or experience in a heavily regulated environment.
  • Experience creating and delivering health care software products.
