Job Description

We have an exciting opportunity for a talented writer and editor with a GREAT agency in Milwaukee. The right candidate is passionate about motorcycles and has the ability to understand complex mechanical technical subjects and has world-class organization skills. In this role, the editor will work closely with client contacts to develop and manage the annual editorial calendars, editorial outlines and production schedules to drive deadlines, while executing the client’s vision of automotive-oriented publications utilized by automotive brand owners and prospects. The editor also will coordinate and manage freelance resources for content development. 


  • Requires a highly creative, idea-oriented individual who thinks outside of the box and continually pushes to raise the level of editorial content and innovative layout presentation 
  • Creates and executes editorial planning calendar for magazines published multiple times a year 
  • Meets with client to ensure strategic direction and content goals are aligned 
  • Collaborate creatively with others, internally and externally 
  • Identifies and develops a network of freelance writers, assigns articles, defines story outlines and determines article length 
  • Works with client to source photography and visual assets; may need to externally secure photographers and videographers for additional images and footage 
  • Assigns and facilitates interactions with subject matter experts and engineers 
  • Follows up with freelancers to ensure deadlines are being met 
  • Provides leadership, editorial direction and coaching to freelance staff 

Ideal Candidate: 

  • 10+ years publishing, or copywriting experience, with 4+ years in a lead editor role; experience with motorcycles a plus 
  • Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications or a related field preferred 
  • High level of detail orientation, creativity and organization 
  • Experience working with clients and technical experts 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills 
  • Prior success in managing multiple, complex projects and priorities 
  • “Can do attitude” to meet client’s quick timeframes
  • 20-25% travel
