Vitamin of the Week: Lucas Volk (Portland)

Lucas Volk

We love that Lucas is always fishing for great jobs for Portland’s best talent. (Oh yes we did.) Having grown up surrounded by creatives, he combined his love of creativity and his passion for matchmaking by partnering with us here at Vitamin T!

Wade in and see what makes this awesome Portland agent tick as he answers our 7 Quick Questions.

  1. Who is your creative or digital hero? Hands down Elon Musk. His combination of business savvy and amazing vision for a sustainable future continues to inspire me. Tesla Motors, Space X, and Solar City are all business ventures that could have failed had he not been so incredibly committed to their success. There is something to be said for someone that sticks his own fortune on the line for a better world and not simply for personal gain. I can’t wait to see what he comes up with next!

  2. What made you want to work at Vitamin T? And what do you love most about working here? The work culture is what attracted me the most. That and having the chance to meet and work with with some of the most amazing creative minds in Portland. If I had to add one more bonus, I’d have to say being able to wear jeans every day is pretty amazing. No more dry cleaning bills!

  3. Biggest myth about being a recruiter/salesperson/staffing industry? I think a lot of people have this idea that everyone is trying to find a job, so it must always be really easy to make matches. They seem to forget that that we are working with clients and talent who both have very specific needs, expectations, and culture fits. As recruiters we’re responsible for managing those expectations and needs for a successful outcome for both parties!

  4. What’s the BEST thing someone can do when looking for a job? Do your research both on the role and the company. Many times job seekers will throw their resume around to see where it sticks. Unfortunately, this can lead to landing in a role with a company that’s a terrible fit. Then they are back to square one. Realize that you are there to add value to a company, not just for a paycheck (even though that’s a huge perk) will make you think differently about your job hunt.

  5. What do you love about working with creative talent? When you’re interviewing a loan processor you generally know what you are going to get - I know from experience. With creatives, every interview is different, because each one is so unique. You get to talk with them about their passion and the amazing things they’ve created. I feel like that is so much a part of the creative space and I love being a part of it.

  6. What’s your favorite brand and why? My favorite brand has to be Apple. They consistently make products that are well thought out, look good, and deliver on everything they say they are going to. Love them or hate them, you know exactly what you are going to get when you buy an Apple product.

  7. Best creative/digital event in your city? Design Week Portland is by far the biggest and the best creative event in Portland. It’s a weeklong event that includes tons of open houses at the top creative agencies in the city. There are also awesome workshops and lectures every day during the week. The whole event closes with a fantastic party where birdhouses designed by the best agencies in town are auctioned off!
