Vitamin of the Week: Katie Silver (Seattle)

Katie Silver

Growing up around creatives and working in the creative field, Katie keenly understands the intersection of art and commerce.

As our Seattle market manager it’s her job to make sure our clients and talent are so wowed by working with us that they’ll give us another Best in Staffing award.

Which is no small feat!

Check out her answers to our 7 Quick Questions to discover where like-minded creatives gather in Seattle, her favorite interview question, and her thoughts about about working at Vitamin T.

  1. In your job, what’s been your favorite moment or biggest joy? My favorite moments come when my clients have an urgent, last minute need – like an end-of-day-we-need-someone-tomorrow-morning need. Yup, I said it. I love those calls! Why? Because it is the best feeling to get them the help they need quickly! Kind of makes me feel like we’re a team of super heroes!

  2. What made you want to work at Vitamin T? And what do you love most about working here? I grew up surrounded by designers, then went on to work for a design college for many years. I am in absolutely awe of creative talent and fundamentally believe that good design can move business forward. I love the way that Vitamin T cares for our talent and clients. The appreciation for creative is systemic as is the desire to make our clients’ lives easier by finding them the perfect fit. People work here because they love it and that shines through in the service we provide.

  3. What’s your favorite interview question? “If money wasn't a consideration, what would be your ideal job?” It gets to the core of a someone's goals, interests, motivations, and maybe even passions. These are things I want to know about when determining if a role is the right fit.

  4. What app do you use regularly that provides great user experience? I love Uber. I use it regularly. It's clean, easy to navigate, really intuitive. Everything you want from an app. Which is one of the reasons it’s probably so popular!

  5. The biggest myth about being a recruiter/salesperson/staffing industry? That we only care about closing the deal. More than anything, we want to make the perfect match! I want my clients and talent to be absolutely delighted. It's great for clients, it's great for talent, and it's great for our business. Everyone here knows the impact the right hire can have (and the impact a wrong one does, too) and we also know what someone feels like when they’re in a job that's not a fit. I want to know everything that I can about my clients: the business problems they are trying to solve, their growth initiates, the ins and outs of their culture; exactly what they need to thrive so that we can provide the perfect talent, quickly.

  6. Best creative/digital event in your city? The Seattle Interactive Conference is an awesome annual event. Also I have to mention that Seattle is a great city for Meetups. You name it, there's a Meetup happening. What better way to get out there and network than to gather with people who have interest similar to yours!?

  7. Who is your creative or digital hero? My mom. She’s been a designer for 30 years and taught us the importance of creative expression and visual communication. A close second is Stefan Sagmeister. Design and music rank as two of my favorite things and the album covers Sagmeister created for Lou Reed, The Rolling Stones, David Byrne, and more are just amazing!
