Sometimes it seems like Hollywood has a thing against work (as a metaphor see: The Shining). The film industry’s penchant for movies about, let’s call them drastic work-life imbalances, such as Office Space or Stranger Than Fiction portray narratives about working stiffs breaking free from the cubicle and finding a lifetime of happiness with Jennifer Aniston or Maggie Gyllenhaal as their companions. (Would it were that we could be so lucky.)
But then there are recent movies like The Intern or The Internship (picking up on a theme here, anyone?) which worship at the altar of the cool office. A sweet work environment is the stuff of tech and creative company lore: Snacks, ping pong table, happy hour booze cart—the works. Chances are the companies you would most like to work for have an amazing office or campus, where inspired thinking, ingenuity and boundary-pushing are the norm.
In the run-up to its 20th year, The Webby Awards published a series of posters and interviews in partnership with some of the most innovative names in tech from NASA, Tumblr, CP+B, Google & Facebook. It’s no coincidence that these industry leaders have inspiring work spaces too. Click through to read the interviews and scroll down to see what the daily could grind look like.
