We’re continuing our coverage of this year’s sold out Career Day at London’s Digital Shoreditch. Where superstars from London’s best agencies: OgilvyOne, SapientNitro, adam&eve, Weapon7, LBi, Imagination, Essence, TBWA, Dare and Scoop and Spoon reviewed some lucky folks portfolios in the Little Top.
Even if you didn’t make it to the event, then you can still garner some inspiration from some of those superstars who told us why they love to do what they do and really important stuff like the app they simply can’t live without.
Jason joined Weapon7 in 2010 and has since collaborated on award winning, digitally integrated work for Mercedes-Benz, Xbox, Cadbury, and mental health charity Mind. He is also responsible for the day-to-day overseeing of all copy generated in the agency. Previously senior writer at three-times agency of the year Elvis, Jason has a first class honours degree in advertising and an unnecessarily large collection of bass guitars.
Quick, what does Weapon7 do? We create online, social and traditional ideas with little beating hearts – which means they take on a life of their own and spread as far as possible. As creative director, it’s my job to collaborate with a wider team to arrive at the strongest work.
Why do you go to work every day? I love that we start with a blank pieces of paper, but then we put scribbles on them that a team of very talented people turn into exciting digital and real world experiences.
Why were you at Digital Shoreditch? I was looking at the portfolios of new and upcoming creatives, passing on the experiences I’ve had and generally trying to be encouraging. Not that much encouragement was needed for the driven, talented people I got to meet.
Shoreditch v Soho? Soho, I’m afraid. But only cos it’s a lot easier for me to get to…
Augmented Reality: pointless or life changing? Mildly diverting.
iPhone or Android or Blackberry? iPhone. Love mine.
App that you can't do without? RailCommute.
Start-ups - Europe or Asia or US? Asia’s a very exciting market right now, so I’m told.
What’s the work you’re most proud of? Either the Mercedes-Benz C63 “It Delivers” campaign, where we took over an amazon.co.uk warehouse, filmed a C63 tearing around it to fulfill an amazon order then put all the content back on the Amazon site.
Or the Ask Alfred campaign to launch the Batman:Arkham City video game. Which was pretty cool because it reskinned and hacked the Bing! search engine so Alfred could bring you Batman-based search results that no other search engine had. And just because it was for Batman.
We’re incredibly grateful to all the amazing and talented creatives who donated their time to make Digital Shoreditch Career Day a wonderful and nurturing experience.
If you didn’t manage to get to Digital Shoreditch this year, next year, make sure you don’t miss out!
Of course, we’re always available if you’re looking to grow your career. You can always feel free to drop us a line, or an email.
