The Freelancer’s Tax and Business Guide

The Freelancer’s Tax...

‘Tis the season!

Correction, ‘tis the other season.

Tax Season.

No decorations. No snappy music. No wassailing (whatever that is).

If you’re like many freelancers, instead of holiday cards, you’re now seeing 1099s crowding into your mailbox and—if you’ve worked as a permanent employee or with Vitamin T—a W-2 or two.

It’s the time of year when a creative’s mind turns to thoughts of government forms.

Which is why we’re happy UC Berkeley grad (and current FormSwift staffer) Jackson Hille reached out to us with his new guide, "The Freelancer's Essential Guide to Business and Taxes."

Created with his mentor, Berkeley lecturer and author Justin Gomer, the online paper was born when the two could find no comprehensive, up-to-date guide for freelancers on the subjects.

It gives a broad overview of what they call the “Gig Economy,” that is, the freelance economy; whether those freelancers are working at a startup or in academia. Interested in seeing just how big researches at Stanford University say that number is?

More importantly, and certainly more timely, it gives a step-by-step tutorial to the tax season for freelancers, whether this is your first season or your thirtieth.

So take a look before you try to find out where in the heck you put your calculator and pencils.

It might be just enough to get you wassailing.
